Phew! And we now have a winner.
I used the random number generator to draw a winning comment, and that comment was #71:
The reason for the delay in announcing is that, when I first emailed the winner last Saturday, I didn’t hear anything. So today I emailed her and said that if I didn’t hear anything this weekend, I’d draw a new winner.
My first email must have gotten lost in her spam filter, because she got my second, and boy was she happy:
Emma!!
WE WON THE BED???
I’m so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay! Congratulations to Lindsay, and thanks everyone for entering!
Here’s what I’ve pinned to my Workwear Board… and here’s how to make it yours.

From Dsquared2′s 2012 resort collection. Sure, Labor Day has come and gone (barely). But if you’re feeling like you don’t want to lose summer just yet, try this on for size. And, fall technically doesn’t come until the end of September.
Joie silk top, $188
J Crew linen cardigan, $80
Knee length pencil skirt, £50
By Larin patent leather shoes, $239
Miami Watch, $30
J Crew long necklace, $50
TopShop orange belt, $25
Psst… P.S. Follow me on Pinterest!
While I’m bouncing around, trying my best to live for a month out of an extremely limited amount of luggage, I thought I’d share my Google Reader contents with you to keep you company.
One of the best parts of my day is sipping coffee while scrolling through Google Reader. It’s a hefty dose of fashion, style, career news, and art and photography. Yum.

Monica blogs about design and style at Our Designed Life. I love her finds and style picks — particularly the amazing art she unearths from Etsy. Here she presents an outfit that transitions from working at home to meetings with clients.
Job Description
I like to think of myself as a do it all designer. I have a background in interior design, creating spaces for high end residential interiors, commercial art galleries, trade show exhibits and have even served as set designer for indie films. I also work with clients on a smaller scale creating customized design guides, a do it yourself style booklet filled with ideas on creating a new look on tight budgets, though there are talks of me designing a bathroom renovation in a downtown skyscraper. Aside from designing spaces, I’ve also been known to dabble in graphic design creating logos and marketing materials to fit each client’s needs. Being a flexible designer has been wonderful and has given me the ability to truly embrace my creative side through different mediums. When I am not working on a design project, I also am in charge of running a vegetarian household, maintaining the blog Our Designed Life and am responsible for keeping this dog of mine entertained. Sometimes a full time job in itself.
Why I Chose These Pieces
Since I work from home, my clothing needs to be comfortable enough for running errands but still transition to the occasional networking event or client meeting. Since moving, I have discovered the joys of layering pieces, not only for a more interesting look but to keep warm when the pesky fog rolls in. I’ve also learned flats are a girl’s best friend when it comes to tackling some of the hills around here. When selecting new finds, each piece needs to blend well with other items in my closet and also fit within a realistic budget. However, throw in a vintage piece and I am one happy camper! The outfit I chose today is a little casual with a comfortable jean and basic stripped tee, but add in a few layers of jewelry and a blazer style coat and its ready for a fun night out.
Alloy Shoes ($43). With a faux leather finish, these shoes are the perfect girly accessory to spruce up any old pair of jeans.
Levi’s Jeans ($118). I just love the relaxed fit of these and the straight ankle is perfect to show off a flashy pair of heels or in my case, adorable flats.
Anthropologie Tee ($68). You really can’t go wrong with a basic stripped tee, you can dress it up or down and grey is just so versatile.
Urban Outfitters Lace Blouse ($59, not pictured). To give the look a little more color and fun, I would add a contrasting hue like this raspberry lace blouse.
J.Crew Jacket ($198). If there is one color I am really into these days it’s mustard yellow. And I know I’m not the only one. There is something about this color and style of jacket that just makes me feel fancy.
ASOS Satchel ($60). Made from polyurethane but with a look like leather, this Pieces Dertan small flap satchel is perfect for day or night. I find the best bags for me these days must have a long adjustable strap.
And because no outfit is done without a few layers of necklaces, here are three I would love to mix together. I am a big fan of combining gold and silver, and well that squirrel, he’s to bring in the fun. All from Etsy: Gold Spotlight Necklace ($30), Turquoise Pendant Necklace ($22, not pictured), and Squirrel Silhouette Necklace ($43, not pictured).
Thanks Monica!
There’s some good info in this cute infographic on career fields that are projected to grow into 2016. Most unexpected? Performance Makeup Artist. Where did that come from? The others aren’t very surprising.
One funny thing: On the “Extinct Jobs” list, there is Elevator Operator. Except, until a few months ago, a friend had an elevator operator in her building. The building only recently switched to an automated elevator. So… maybe not entirely extinct, yet!

I think the simple process of arranging objects makes us feel more in control. Artist Ursus Wehrli takes this to a whole new level, indulging in the human urge to sort, arrange, collate, and categorize unusual objects and situations. Isn’t it beautiful?

I’m still unpacking from my move on Monday. It’s tough because I’ve moved into my fiance’s place, so there’s already stuff everywhere. We also have lots of duplicate items — pans, irons, vacuum cleaners, etc.
One thing I’m really glad we did ahead of time was have the hall closet redone. See, the bedroom closet is tiny, so he’s using the entire thing. The only other closet in the place is a large walk-in hall closet. And while it had lots of storage potential, it was outfitted only with one hanging bar and a few sad shelves.
So, we had California Closets come in and redo the thing. They added a lot more hanging space, and stacked it to maximize the high ceilings. They added shelves and hooks for my scarves and belts.
I’m so happy with the outcome. Even though I just carted off 8 bags of clothing to Goodwill this morning, I still have tons of clothes left (it turns out I’m something of a hoarder), and the closet manages to fit it all. Check it out.

The view from the hallway. On the right, not visible, there is some taller hanging space for long dresses and coats and shelving for shoes.

The hooks for scarves and belts help me utilize these items because they’re all on display.

Skirts and pants on bottom; shirts and jackets on top.

I folded sweaters above the coats and long dresses. I like that I can see everything.

Shoes, shoes and more shoes.
Even though my fiance gets the bedroom closet and I have to walk across the hall, I’m pretty sure I got the better end of this deal.
One of the stranger trends I’m seeing this fall is taking the slippers that belong to traditional men’s formal wear and making casual versions for women.
I’m not opposed to a pair of these for weekends with some cropped jeans. I dig the tomboy feel of it. But what about for the office?
If I were to wear them to work, I’d probably opt for a pair in a conservative color and wear them with tights, a pencil skirt, and a button down.
What about you? Would you rock these at work, or ever? (Click the image for purchasing information.)
I’ve begun packing for the massive trip I’m taking on Sunday. While this isn’t a business trip, the goals are similar: packing light, comfort while I travel, and accessibility while I’m away.
Here are my must-have items for traveling:
1. Earplugs. These are my most essential travel items. On planes, on trains, and in automobiles (okay, buses), I can’t live without earplugs. You never know when the person sitting directly behind you on the train will have a cell phone conversation in your ear, or whether the two seatmates in front of you on the airplane will discover they’re soulmates. I’ve tried many different brands, but Hearos score the best for noise reduction and comfort.
2. Diaper Bag. You heard me. Diaper bags fit a lot of stuff, are lightweight, comfortable, and durable (usually made of nylon), and many of them don’t even look like diaper bags. For toting around a lot of touristing items during the day (including my large camera), a durable diaper bag fits the bill. I have this Marc Jacobs bag. By the way, anyone need a Marc Jacobs diaper changing mat?
3. Large pocketbook/wallet. I want to fit all the documents I need in one secure wallet — passport, ID, credit cards, money, boarding tickets, itineraries, etc. You don’t want your boarding ticket floating around loose in your purse; bad news if that baby falls out. These Vera Bradley travel wallets are inexpensive, colorful, and hold it all.
4. Plug adapter. This really only applies to international travel, but it’s a good idea to grab a Cetaphil.
6. Big scarf. A big, soft scarf can double as a shawl or small blanket when the plane or train gets too cold. I also use a scarf as a makeshift blindfold when I want to block out light — but you could also just buy a sleep mask.
What are your must-have travel items?
