Open Thread: Holiday Gifts for Staff, Coworkers, and Bosses

It’s the time of year to be thinking about gifts for those you work with. Who will you be buying gifts for this year? Who is it appropriate to buy for, and who should you leave off your list? How much will you be spending?

I work in a small office, and I’ll be buying small gifts of holiday treats (cookies or cake) for my four coworkers and perhaps a nice bottle of wine for my boss. Since my office is so small (within a larger company), I have it easy. But I’m interested to hear how others will be maneuvering office gift-giving these holidays.

Also, here are a few ideas for inexpensive gifts:

1. Sweets Candy Co. Gourmet Taffy Yuletide Twist Box

Affordable at only $4.99 from Drugstore.com, this prettily-packaged box of taffy includes such holiday flavors as caramel, gingerbread, and eggnog.

2. The Gourmet Cookie Book: The Single Best Recipe for Each Year 1941-2009

Come on, who doesn’t love making cookies? Or at least looking at pictures of cookies? This is an affordable, non-religious book that’s ripe for the holidays. $9.90 (list price $18.00) at Amazon.com.

3. Microloan with Kiva: $15 for $25 Worth of Credits

Give someone the power to help make global change with Kiva microloan credits. For the next week through Groupon, you can buy $25 worth of credits for $15. This is an excellent holiday gift for the person who has everything.

I usually bake holiday treats and give them away in nice packages.
Last year I made chocolate truffle. This time I’ll make simple christmas biscuits decorated with scrap-cooking tricks…

That’s a great idea — homemade goods in pretty packaging. If you’ve got the time, homemade is best!

Thanks for your post. Another great holiday gift for working gals or co-workers is a Sick & Tired of Working (Playing by the rules) kit from Dazzling Concepts. Working is no fun, especially when it’s not by choice but by obligation. Give the decision maker a spin and see what happens. Use these goodies to help you deal with working and playing by the rules. Very unique yet cute.
