Today we have a startup competition for women, an employee with a very creative solution for resigning, a Neiman Marcus fashion contest, and some real life resume mishaps that we can all laugh at and enjoy.
1. Women 2.0 Startup Competition
Women 2.0 is dedicated to increasing the number of women in technology startups. Given that 92% of venture capital funding goes to men, I’d say this is a noble goal. One of Women 2.0′s solutions is their Startup Competition. Submit your business model and see if you get chosen to present to a group of venture capitalists — your company could become the next big thing. Applications are due October 1.
2. A Woman Quits Her Job on a Dry Erase Board, and Sticks It to Her Boss
This is not a recommended method of resigning, but sometimes special situations call for extraordinary measures. Plus, she did a really, really good job of matching her facial expressions to the white board message. It’s almost performance art.
3. Neiman Marcus Passion for Fashion Challenge
Here’s the deal: create a look from Neiman Marcus’s fall items, maybe win $5000 if your look is the best. The odds of winning are, of course, slim… but if you were going to shop online anyway, why not take a detour to Neiman Marcus? It’s better than playing Farmville for 19 hours (see above link).
4. Ten Real-Life Resume Mishaps
These people’s errors in judgment are our Tuesday afternoon pick-me-ups. Come on, he had to know that writing “I’m the f-ing man” was a bad call.
