Linkin’ Around

Happy Friday! These past couple of weeks have been busy at work for me, but things are becoming more manageable. Some things that have happened lately: I finished listening to the Anna Karenina audiobook finally; I saw The Social Network and loved it (amazing dialogue); and I went pumpkin picking at a farm (I was disappointed that there were no candy apples, alas).

I’ve also been giving thought to a Halloween costume. What are you all going as? I thought this American Apparel-based pirate costume would be easy enough, but of course I’ll only use it as inspiration since I’ve decided to boycott them. Kandee Johnson also has a multitude of Halloween make up how-to videos on Youtube that I highly recommend.

Other things I’ve been admiring this week:

1. I love this workplace outfit at the blog Cubicle Chic. It’s whimsical and feminine with the flouncy skirt, but the black and white palette keeps it sophisticated.

2. Bring your baby to work day: Licia Ronzulli of Italy attended a voting session of the European Parliament with her baby to draw attention to women’s rights. The baby looks so peaceful there, amid the political tug-of-war.

3. I agree that this is a fabulous shade of red nail polish. Essie “In Stitches.”

4. Apparently, Washington D.C. is one of the best places for women looking to earn high salaries: One in six women makes over $100,000 a year.

5. A new pair of J.Crew tights have been mistaken for a thick coating of leg hair. Jenna Lyons: “Whoops!”

The Social Network was much better than I expected. I don’t know why Zuckerberg was reported as being scared of it, my theater cheered him on as the anti-hero. Someone else compared it to a modern day “Wall Street” where the message that greed was bad…got lost in translation for that generation. Lol .

I asked about workplace costumes yesterday and our managing editor gave the ok and quickly followed it up with, “but make sure it’s appropriate” and he looked a bit panicked. I thought that was funny and wondered who really wore inappropriate costumes to work, but I’m sure someone somewhere has.

Oh, workplace costumes! I hadn’t even considered wearing one to work, just parties. My office is conservative, so probably even a witch hat or vampire teeth would be considered “wild.”

Workplace costumes never occurred to me – but being an accountant (tax) I suspect that wearing vampire teeth would be a little to literal (after all, how often do we call the IRS bloodsuckers??)
