Back from Europe; Ready to Work

Flowers in Oxford, England

It’s been a whirlwind month. Seven cities, 30 days. Now I’m back home, and starting work at a new job tomorrow. Whew!

Some things I learned abroad:

1. David Hasselhoff was huge in East Germany.

2. Professional Londoners dress very, very well.

3. I like duck. To eat.

But now I’m back, and focused on work. As always with starting a new job, I’m looking forward to my first day with nerves and excitement. What’s your best advice for starting a new job?

Welcome back! My advice: be yourself. You’ll be great.

I looking for this type of advice, too! I accepted a job offer a couple days ago and I just put in notice at my current job. Now, I’m trying to move forward on a positive note while also preparing for my first day at the new job. Today was a little awkward after I spoke with my boss, but hopefully that’ll get better as I get closer to my last day.

My advice is to befriend the receptionist/administrative assistant on the first day. She (or he) will then have your back and give you advice you won’t hear from anybody else. Like letting you know that you have to dress nicer than you might normally or that people don’t go out to lunch, they just eat at their desks – stuff like that.
Enjoy your new job!

I hope you had a great first day at work! The first day of work has been a very different experience every place I have worked. I would just focus on the work itself and the rest will fall into place. Was that even advice? Not so much, but I wanted to wish you the best! I hope you had a wonderful time abroad.

Welcome back!
