Readers, I appreciate that you visit us here at Jane Has A Job. I try to offer a mix of career advice and general lifestyle tidbits that affect working women. But I understand that sometimes you just need an escape — fun content to take your mind off of work.
Here are 7 great blogs offering just that. Three are my absolute favorites, and four were suggested by Twitter friends. I promise they won’t disappoint!

SmittenKitchen is a true delight for anyone who likes to cook, or just enjoys drooling over pictures of food. Deb shares her own recipes and adapts others to render them simpler for the home cook — all the while sharing step-by-step instructions and photographing the process. Her love of food and fresh, simple ingredients just oozes through her words. You can search the blog for recipes (there are tons) or browse by season or ingredient.

Emily is definitely a style maven. Her fashion (and food) blog has been featured everywhere, and she was even asked to design a limited edition bag for Coach. She creates surprising and inspiring outfits with a mix of high-end and affordable pieces, and her boyfriend photographs her in these outfits in interesting California backdrops.

Grace Bonney started this design website years ago as a side project, and now running the site is her full-time job. It has a bunch of regular features, like round-ups of design items under $100, gardening tips, movie-theme design posts, and (my absolute favorite) “sneak peeks” of fabulously decorated homes. The site also introduces affordable artwork and DIY projects. Design*Sponge is absolute eye candy.

@kelseyterp‘s go-to blog is The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond’s guide to her life on the modern-day frontier. It’s a comprehensive site; Ree shares her recipes, offers her beautiful photography for free downloading, and shares highly entertaining stories from her life. She’s a great writer, and there’s lots of visual appeal in her photographs of life on a farm.

@gh0stwriter‘s “fave non-related work blog is, hands down, now and forever” 2 Birds 1 Blog. That’s quite the endorsement, so I admit I was very curious about the blog. It’s a humor blog that’s won like a zillion awards, written in a wry and very sarcastic voice (which are the best kind, of course). Posts are given such titles as “Things I’d Rather Cut Off My Foot Than Do” (for example, join the French foreign legion or read Eat, Pray, Love) and “Thoughts I Frankly Didn’t Try Very Hard to Flesh Out into Full Entries Because I’ve Had A Shitty Few Days.” Gotta love it.

@Kimberly_Lucio‘s favorite is Grasie Mercedes, an eponymous personal blog by an actress, stylist and television host, blogging about her many career ventures and fashion. While sharing her thoughts on life, celebrities, and personal style, Grasie Mercedes offers a fresh, personal outlook that separate her from the media herd.

@Blugirlart‘s fave, Elements of Style, is a humorous design blog by interior and fashion stylist Erin Gates. Like any good design blog should be, Elements of Style is visually appealing, but it’s uniquely coupled with witty and tongue-in-cheek writing. Join her on her trips hunting for antiques and catch her regular “Fashion Fridays” features.

Thanks! Glad to hear it :)
Thanks for the blog ideas – always looking for new good reads! However, did you really have to put that picture of those DELICIOUS-looking cookies up?! Seriously, I can’t get them off my mind!!
I know, it’s the most enticing picture of cookies I’ve ever seen. You can actually order it as a print at Smitten Kitchen’s site (they offer prints of a lot of their gorgeous food photography), but I think that would be dangerous daily inspiration for someone with a sweet tooth as big as mine.
